Visitor Information

Located on the northeast coast of North America, St. John’s is the capital city of the Province of Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada. St. John’s is one of the oldest cities in North America cradled in a harbor carved from 500 million year old rock surrounded by hills running down to the ocean. The majority of the population in St. John’s descends from both Ireland and England. Newfoundland has its own time zone – 1.5 hours ahead of Easter Standard Time and, as the most easterly point in North America, it is where the sun first rises.

As a result of its proximity to the massive hydrocarbon potential of the region, St. John’s is rapidly developing as the commercial and technical center of the growing Canadian offshore petroleum industry. Its strategic position and economic connection to the ocean has made St. John’s home to specialized and diverse marine expertise (harsh environment technologies, ice and arctic conditions, and oceans engineering). Its location and expertise also enables the City to be a gateway to arctic and northern regions.

Safety & Security

Alcohol Policy

We recognize the legitimate serving of alcoholic beverages in the process of conducting business and social activities. We also recognize that the use and consumption of alcohol carries with it the requirement for all attendees to consume those beverages responsibly and in keeping with our professional code ethics and conduct. We strongly oppose the abuse and misuse of alcohol.

Fire Marshall Policies

One of the key components to the success of ATC is the safety of our attendees and presenters. Due to the popularity of some session topics, it is possible for overcrowding to occur in a session or meeting room. Should this occur, we must comply with the Fire Marshal’s policies regarding room capacity and limit admittance to a room that is at capacity. Please make plans to arrive early for sessions that you have a strong interest in attending. In the event of an emergency, ATC staff and/or convention center staff will provide conference attendees with any necessary information and instructions.

First Aid

The First Aid room is located on Level 3. Personnel throughout the Convention Centre and Delta Hotel are First Aid trained.

Name Badges

All attendees are required to wear their ATC name badge and badge holder at all times. Use of a badge by a person not named on the badge is grounds for confiscation. If you lose your conference badge, please return to Registration to obtain a replacement. Attendees 15 to 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. No one under 15 years of age will be admitted to ATC.

No Smoking Policy

Smoking is prohibited in all areas of St. John’s Convention Centre.
